The method / Version 1.2

How we review startups

We use the product the way a customer would, film it, and write it up. These are the rules.

What a review is

  1. 01We use itOur own account, made-up data, the way a customer would.
  2. 02We film itThe film goes public once we clear it, and the founder gets it the same moment. A problem not yet fixed is never in it.
  3. 03We write itA person writes every word. A first look has no score.

How to read a mark

A mark is a view, never an instruction.

First look
Used, filmed and written up. No score.
Re-test · 0–100
One number, the reviewer’s judgment, and a tier word chosen with it. The old mark stays under it.
Not tested yet
On the roster, not used by us yet. Said, never left blank.
Top Pickabout 90 and up
The best we have used for the job.
Recommendedabout 75 to 89
Strong, and the right choice for most people who need it.
For someabout 55 to 74
Good for some jobs and not others. The review says which.
Skipunder about 55
We would not use it, and the review says exactly why.

What we never do

  • Publish a security problem. We stop, tell the company’s security contact on its own, and keep it out of every page and film, fixed or not.
  • Probe or load-test. We never test logins, scan, or push a product harder than a customer would.
  • Sell a review. No payment changes a verdict, a score or a date. Every review says at the top if we advise the company, it is a paying client, it paid for sponsored content, we earn a commission on its links, or MenFem holds equity in it, with the date.
  • Call a problem fixed unchecked. When a founder says it is fixed, we re-check it first.

Reviews from readers

  • The score. Readers score a product from 1 to 5. A company shows the average, with how many reviews, once three are up. It is never mixed with our mark.
  • Who may post. Anyone signed in with a username, on the page of any private company we list.
  • Held first. We read every review before it shows, and again after an edit.
  • No security problems. A review that describes one never shows. Email us instead.
  • One each. One review per person per company. You can edit or delete yours.
  • Staff are marked. A review from the company’s own team carries a badge and is left out of the average.

Corrections and re-tests

  • Problems, in our own words. One plain line on the company’s page, open or fixed, with its dates.
  • No silent edits. Every review keeps a dated log of what changed, and says when and how we tested.
  • Scores keep their history. A re-test adds a mark; every earlier one stays.
  • Tell us. Think we got it wrong? Email [email protected].
Method 1.2 · every version
  1. 1.2 · 26 Oct 2026Reviews are filmed on our own site player and are public from the first day. The founder gets the film at the same moment, and no unfixed problem appears in it.
  2. 1.1 · 6 Oct 2026A problem is listed on the company’s page once we have written its one public line, fixed or not. Security and privacy problems never are.
  3. 1.0 · 30 Sep 2026The method is published. A first look has no score. The founder gets the walkthrough first, and the review can go live the same day but never before. A problem is listed only once it is fixed.

How we handle the data of people we contact is in the privacy notice.
