Everyone is long NVIDIA, and the tape knows it: six straight revenue beats, four of the last five met with a sell-off. The consensus debate — does training demand saturate? — is the wrong question. The right one is whether the quality of NVIDIA's revenue is degrading even as the headline rips. At 21x forward earnings for ~85% growth and 114% ROE, the market already prices a deceleration, which is why the valuation is not the risk. The risk has migrated to the balance sheet: NVIDIA increasingly finances its own demand — equity stakes in OpenAI, Anthropic and the neoclouds, vendor guarantees, multi-year cloud buy-backs — and books roughly $3.4B of mark-to-market gains on AI-private equity that flatter pre-tax income. Three customers are 54% of revenue, and those same hyperscalers are building Trainium, MTIA and Maia to escape. We stay constructive — the franchise is real, the moat is widening from chip to rack, and the multiple is undemanding — but conviction is MEDIUM, not high, because the bull and bear both fixate on the income statement while the story that matters is in the footnotes.
AMENDED 2026-09-06 (Connor's ruling on the review). Entry corrected to 208.19 (the 9 Jun close). Tape: → 230.36 (+10.65%), worst weekly close −7.52%, vs QQQ +8.68pp. The circularity the thesis names escalated in kind rather than closing: the OpenAI backstop is now a $105.0B capped, default-contingent guarantee in the FY27-Q2 10-Q ($108.5B total exposure, phasing from fiscal 2029); $279B of supply commitments (from $119B), "primarily memory"; $36B of cloud commitments bought back from the AI clouds it sells to. The balance-sheet items the 3 Aug update said to watch both moved hard: receivables $63.06B (from $38.47B), inventories $31.58B (from $21.40B), cash conversion 40% (OCF $24.1B vs $59.7B net income), DSO ~45 → ~60 days. Q2 revenue $96.2B vs the $91B guide the call named; Q3 guide $108.0B; FY28 guided "approximately 70%" supply-constrained. The thesis is intact and better evidenced; the risk it names is bigger, not smaller. KEEP, conviction MEDIUM.
