Entered at 194,400 KRW, the close on 6 Nov; last close 30 Oct. The grade comes from the falsifier, never this number.

What would prove this wrong · verbatim, as published

The reason for holding this stops being true if memory prices break: Samsung's chip division (DS) operating profit falling below half of its Q3 2026 level in any quarter within the year. It also stops being true if the returns are pulled: Samsung cutting or suspending its announced 2026 shareholder-return plan.

Rings are the falsifier’s legs. Moons are the catalysts it named. Weights are its risks, longer for higher severity.
The claim

Record memory profit and HBM4 ramping, bought after a 14% fall. Bullish at low conviction: memory is cyclical and Samsung is the third supplier, not the first.

Samsung: the third HBM maker, earning like the first

Key Points

  • Q3 2026 operating profit ~KRW 107T, a record, ~99% from chips [secondary].
  • HBM4 revenue tripled to ~60% of HBM sales; 2027 HBM described as sold out.
  • KRW 90–110T of shareholder returns planned for 2026 (Samsung Newsroom).
  • Third HBM supplier; SK Hynix reportedly ~70% of NVIDIA's HBM4.

Samsung is the largest memory maker in the world and the third supplier of the high-bandwidth memory that sits next to every AI accelerator. Its third quarter of 2026 was the most profitable in its history: operating profit of about KRW 107T, against KRW 43.6T for the whole of 2025, almost all of it from chips. HBM4 revenue more than tripled in the quarter to about 60% of its HBM sales, management says 2027 HBM supply is sold out at target prices, and the company plans KRW 90–110T of shareholder returns this year. MenFem already holds bullish calls on SK Hynix and Micron, the other two HBM suppliers; this call adds the one with the most to gain if its HBM share keeps catching up, and the most diversified balance sheet. It is LOW conviction for three reasons. Almost all the profit is memory, which has always been cyclical; the phone and TV business lost money in the quarter, and the foundry holds a small share against TSMC. SK Hynix reportedly holds about 70% of NVIDIA's HBM4, so Samsung is still the challenger. And the third-quarter figures here come from secondary accounts of the 29 October results, to be checked against Samsung's own release at the next review. BULLISH, conviction LOW, one year. The entry is the live Seoul price on 6 November, KRW 194,400, after a fall of about 14% from the 30 October close.

Bull Case

HBM share keeps rising toward its DRAM share, memory prices hold through 2027 on long-term contracts, and record returns support the shares.

Bear Case

What I'd have to believe for the other side: a record quarter in memory is the warning, not the signal. Capex is rising across the industry, Samsung is still third in the product that matters, and a company whose profit is 99% memory owns the cycle whether it wants to or not.
